Connexis Search Group - 2021 Review

Connexis Search Group recruits in the life science, diagnostics, and biotechnology industries.

Most of our clients have experienced significant growth over the last several years, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to help them recruit top-tier candidates. Our clients are involved in cutting-edge technologies such as DNA sequencing, gene editing, gene therapy, drug discovery via organ on chips and organoids, spatial genomics, artificial intelligence, data storage, and many more. It is exciting to be involved in so many revolutionary technologies.

Revenue Growth

We are pleased to announce that Connexis Search Group recruiters delivered the best year in the company's 21-year history. Our revenue increased by 30.4% over last year.

Our Growth

Our growth in 2021 results from numerous things, but the prominent two are sales force expansions and non-commercial recruiting efforts. We have been fortunate to be selected by several prestigious life science companies to help them with significant personnel expansions. We also continued to diversify and grow our business by helping our clients hire scientists, engineers, clinical, regulatory affairs, medical affairs, and quality control candidates. 57% of our placements in 2021 came from technical positions; the other 43% were in commercial operations.

Recruiting Challenges

Finding candidates has never been more challenging. Many companies are competing for the same candidates, driving up the demand with a limited supply, but the good news is that candidates will change jobs for the appropriate opportunity. You need a recruiter to help attract these candidates! We learn that it takes an aggressive approach to start conversations with passive candidates. Contact your Connexis Search Group recruiter to learn more about our techniques that yield candidates.

Salary Increases

In my 21 years of recruiting, I have never seen salary increases as we have seen over the last 6-12 months. We updated our Salary Survey this month (February 2022) to reflect the new salary ranges for candidates that work in the life science, biotechnology, and diagnostics industries. Companies willing to adjust to the new pay ranges have an advantage over those who cannot increase their wages. Some hiring managers are unaware of the current market conditions, which puts them at a disadvantage over more informed hiring managers.

Candidate Tenures

Twenty years ago, a candidate that changed jobs every ten years was considered a job hopper. Today a candidate with three years at any current company is hard to find. Why tenures have decreased is a complex topic that we don't have time to review in this article. Just know that short tenures are something we must accept.

Working from home

To attract the best candidates, you must consider letting them work remotely. Like many of our hiring managers, I am old school and want everyone to work in the office. But since many companies have already adjusted to remote workers, candidates have the advantage since someone will hire them.
